ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION

HOW ALUMNAE SISTERS STAY CONNECTED WITH THE ORGANIZATION

About the Association

Since the inception of the organization, we have established an Alumnae Association, which is designed to be one of the avenues for sisters to remain active within the sisterhood and the community following their undergraduate careers. The Association has several levels of involvement and is recommended for all sisters whether they have moved on to higher levels of education or have started pursuing their career goals.

Banquet and Awards

Every five years the Alumnae Association organizes and hosts Founders Day to celebrate the date that Omega Phi Chi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. was founded. Over the years, the association has hosted banquets, luncheons, and Omega Prowls. Along with hosting Founders Day, the Alumnae Association presents awards for Undergraduate of the Year and Alumna of the Year, which is voted on by the sistehood.

Scholarship

Every year, the Alumnae Association awards two, $250 book scholarships to active sisters, one undergraduate sister and one graduate sister. Both scholarships require a completed application, which consist of an essay and a resume.

The requirements for the Undergraduate Book Scholarship are:

  • Be an active sister with good standing in the organization;

  • Be a full-time student (12 credits or more), with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

The Alumnae Book scholarship requirements are:

  • Be active within the Alumnae Association, in good standing with the organization;

  • Be enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited university.

Last year’s winner were, Prima Ahamed and Maria Montenegro.

Panther Press

The Panther Press is a quarterly newsletter that aims to provide news, announcements, and information that is of interest to the general sisterhood. All contributions to the newsletter are made by members of the organization. The Alumnae Association organizes and electronically distributes the newsletter.

Philanthropic Efforts

The Alumnae Association’s Philanthropy is Autism Awareness.  In an effort to raise funds for this important cause, members of the association participate in walks and host yearly fundraisers to create awareness.

Aside from being advocates for spreading Autism Awareness, the Alumnae Association is very active within their respective communities. Each Regional Chair hosts multiple community service events throughout the year for active alumnae.

Regional Alumnae Events

Omega Phi Chi's alumnae regions plan and host events for alumnae and professionals, in addition to hosting events that bring all sisters together.

Every year we commemorate our Founders Day with a celebration. The celebrations take place in regions and are coordinated as a combined effort of our Alumnae Regions and Undergraudate Chapters.

Annually the each alumnae region coordinates a sister picnic. This is an opportunity for all sisters and their families to bond and spend time together. The national association contributes financially to each event.

Networking is a very important part of being successful, therefore the Alumnae Association plans several networking socials throughout the year. Each event is spearhead by the Alumnae Association Regional Chairs. Omega Phi Chi strives to create opporunities for sisters to create a professional network that can serve as a platform to catapult their careers and provide new opporunities.
